Workplace safety resources

Put your training into practice.

Explore official guidance alongside your course or workplace training plan.

Plan First Aid and CPR cover.

  • Base your first aid arrangements on your work, hazards, location and the people on site. Consider coverage across shifts and access to equipment and trained first aiders.
  • SafeWork NSW recommends CPR refresher training each year and renewal of first aid qualifications every three years.
  • Check first aid kits regularly and make sure workers know who their first aiders are and how to reach them.

Before your White Card training.

  • General construction induction is required for people carrying out construction work and certain workers entering operational construction zones.
  • SafeWork NSW states that participants must be at least 14 and provide 100 points of identification. Check the official evidence-of-identity guidance before attending.
  • A White Card becomes void after two consecutive years or more without carrying out construction work. Check your situation with SafeWork NSW if you are returning to the industry.

Rescue training within a safe electrical workplace.

  • SafeWork NSW says electrical work on energised equipment is prohibited except in limited circumstances with additional controls.
  • Its guidance covers risk assessment, preventing re-energisation, safe work method statements and competent observers where required.
  • LVR and CPR skills support emergency readiness. Completing rescue training does not authorise electrical work or replace the controls, competence and licensing required for the task.
LVR & CPR training

Support people. Address workplace risks.

  • Psychosocial hazards can arise from workloads, unclear roles, poor support, bullying, violence and the way work is organised.
  • SafeWork NSW advises employers to consult workers, identify hazards and control risks through suitable work design and systems.
  • Mental Health First Aid can support conversations and help-seeking. It does not, by itself, fulfil an employer’s duty to manage psychosocial risks.
Mental Health First Aid

Safer work in cafés, kitchens and venues.

  • SafeWork NSW highlights manual handling injuries, burns, slips, cuts, electrical hazards, fatigue and aggression in hospitality workplaces.
  • Use its hospitality resources for staff safety conversations and review the hazards in your own kitchen, bar or café.
  • This workplace safety guidance complements practical hospitality training. Food-safety and liquor or gaming licensing requirements are separate.
Hospitality training options

Keep educators safe, too.

  • SafeWork NSW identifies slips, hazardous manual tasks and psychosocial risks in early childhood education and care.
  • Its resources cover moving equipment, using cots and change tables, storage and working at low levels. Use them to start a safety discussion with your team.
  • These worker-safety resources sit alongside First Aid and child-protection training; they do not replace the separate requirements applying to your service.
Education & care training

Understand HSR training entitlements.

  • Health and Safety Representatives are entitled to an approved five-day initial course and a one-day refresher each year.
  • After a training request, the employer must allow attendance as soon as practicable and within three months, maintain normal pay and cover fees and reasonable attendance costs.
  • Use SafeWork NSW’s approved-provider information when choosing HSR training. This resource explains entitlements; it is not a Catch HSR course booking.

Connect training with your workplace plan.

  • SafeWork NSW says workplaces must have an emergency plan suited to their work, hazards, location and people.
  • Include response and evacuation procedures, emergency communications, medical assistance, worker instruction and testing of the plan. Cover shift workers and review arrangements when the workplace changes.
  • Keep an accessible injury register. SafeWork NSW provides a template and guidance to help employers maintain their records.
