Watch Your Step – It’s Snake Season in Australia! 🐍

Spring and summer in Australia don’t just bring sunny skies, BBQs, and beach trips—they also mark the start of snake season. That’s right, as the weather warms up, snakes come out of hiding to soak in the sun, search for food, and explore… sometimes a little too close to our backyards and walking tracks.

Now, before you panic and start stomping around in steel boots, let’s keep it real: most snakes would rather slither away than hang out with humans. But accidents can happen, and knowing what to do in case of a snake bite is absolutely vital.

Fun (and slightly scary) Snake Bite Facts:

  • Australia is home to some of the world’s most venomous snakes (yes, we’re famous for that too 🐍✨).
  • Most snake bites happen when people accidentally step on or try to catch a snake—so give them space!
  • The golden rule: Do NOT try to suck out venom (leave that for the movies). Instead, pressure immobilisation and calling emergency services is key.

Quick Safety Tips During Snake Season:

✔️ Wear long pants and shoes if you’re hiking in bushland.
✔️ Keep lawns short and gardens tidy to reduce snake hangouts.
✔️ Don’t play “snake wrangler”—leave that to the professionals.
✔️ If bitten, stay calm, apply a pressure bandage, immobilise the limb, and get help immediately.

Remember: knowledge is power. Knowing how to respond quickly and correctly can save lives.
