Should You Do The RSA And RCG Together?

What is RSA?

Anyone serving or providing alcohol in a licensed establishment must have completed their Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course.

This course is appropriate for people who are presently employed or seeking employment in the hospitality business in a capacity that involves the sale and supply of liquor. Food and beverage attendants at cafés and restaurants, bottle store workers, and cellar door staff at wineries, breweries, and distilleries are examples of this.

This training will teach you how to sell or serve alcohol safely, how to help consumers drink within suitable limits, communication skills to reject alcohol supply, and much more. You will also get an overview of South Australia’s existing RSA law.

After completing the course, you will be given a Statement of Attainment. This course will be presented in-person to verify that your RSA qualification is valid in South Australia. Both the theoretical component and the examinations will be conducted on campus, which will need your attendance at a TAFE SA site.

To finish your RSA, you must be 17 years old. You cannot serve or furnish alcohol until you reach the age of 18. Your RSA does not have an expiry date under current South Australian legislation. The standards for RSA certification vary by state and territory. This course fulfills the RSA requirements in South Australia.

Due to facility overheads and evaluation capabilities, duration and cost may vary slightly between sites.

What is RCG?

The Responsible Service of Gambling credential is abbreviated as RCG. As you may be aware, this training is frequently required for many positions in pubs, hotels, and clubs (such as RSLs and SLSCs) using slot machines. In NSW, “employees who will have gaming machine-related tasks” are required by law to have completed the RCG training. In actuality, though, if you choose to work “on the floor” or “front of the house,” you will still need it because you will be operating in and among the slot machines.

Practically every bar and club in Australia has these, which means that if the state where you wish to work wants an RCG certificate, it may be worthwhile to get your RSA, RCG, and even a Hygiene certificate all at the same time.

Should You Do RSA and RCG Courses Simultaneously?

Employees working in a position associated with the sale or distribution of alcohol are required to possess an RSA, or Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate, in all states of Australia. Similarly, Australian personnel working in a gambling-related role must have an RCG or Responsible Service of Gambling Certificate. Both certifications work on the same principle: persons in jobs connected to addictive, risky behaviors have a responsibility to keep customers, clients, and other employees safe from harming themselves or others.

While some occupations just require RSA and RCG courses, the vast majority of establishments that sell alcohol also provide gambling services, whether it’s a complete casino or just one or two poker machines in a bar. Employees of these companies are frequently required to obtain both of these types of certifications. If they do not, certain employees may be restricted to specific places or activities at work. This can be troublesome, as personnel with only one credential are unable to utilize their full potential.

RSA and RCG online are becoming widely accessible. Previously, these classes had to be taken in person, which took up a lot of time in people’s schedules. There are no time constraints for taking either course online; nonetheless, online students tend to complete the course in less than a third of the time required by RSA/RCG seminars. Although gaining credentials before employment may substantially increase an individual’s employability, making accreditation a good alternative for casual workers or tourists on a work visa, many businesses offer to pay their employees their way through this training.

Wrapping Up

If you are applying to pubs, hotels, or clubs that are likely to include poker machines, you should probably acquire your RSA and RCG together. You may save money, include it on your resume, and be certain that your training satisfies the minimum practical criteria for obtaining the job. Even if you don’t end up finding a position where it’s necessary, having it tells companies that you’re serious about the business. It’s also worth noting that any training like this qualifies for a tax deduction after the fiscal year (so keep your receipts). So make sure that you get your RSA and RCG certifications from a trusted training provider, like Catch training located in Sydney, Australia.
